Hoppers Squad Update – Re-Signings Lead the Way Part 1!

Date: 04 August 2021

Further to announcements around our Leadership Group and the appointment of Peter Altham to the coaching staff, the club has also secured a number of important re-signings to the squad for the 2021/22 season.

Leading the way are Ben Dorrington and brother Jordan Dorrington who bring a wealth of experience to the squad. The ever-versatile Ben Dorrington swept the board at the end of season player awards winning both the Coaches Player and Player’s Player awards. Jordan has also committed himself to another season at Lightfoot Green. An England Counties and Lancashire Squad member, Hoppers fans will be hoping to see Jordan get more opportunities to show his attacking threat in the upcoming campaign.

Also committing themselves to the squad are home grown forwards Oga Mabaya and Luke Procter. Mabaya was part of the National 2 North Dream team on the sides return to National League rugby and forced his way into Lancashire Squad contention. The powerful Procter has provided great versatility with a keen eye for the try line. He will be looking to nail down a starting place in the pack and bring his ball carrying power to the fore.

Two further home-grown talents who’ll be a key part of the squad next season are Jacob Browne and Tyler Sloane. Outside back Browne will be looking for opportunities to show his blistering pace in the wider channels whilst prop Sloane has been working incredibly hard in the lockdown on his conditioning and has hit the ground running in pre-season.

They are a group of really talented players who can take us in the direction we want to go and fit the style we are seeking to play. They are all working hard in pre-season and setting the example we are looking for”.
