Hoppers Tie Up Promising Granby

Date: 04 May 2017

PGRFC are delighted to announced that they have secured England Counties U18 second row Jack Granby for the 2017/18 season.

Jack, who has featured and impressed in the last two league games of the season, will be part of Head Coach Paul Arnold’s senior squad for next season’s campaign.

Despite being a late starter to the game, Jack has developed strongly with his athleticism and skill set already significant strengths in his game. He has already been selected by Lancashire at age group level, North U18 and was part of the England Counties U18 squad for their recent two test tour to Ireland.

On that Tour, he was selected as a replacement for the opening Test but a strong performance off the bench – culminating in a try – ensured he was promoted to the starting line-up for the second game. Alas, whilst both tests were lost, Jack showed up well in both games and can be rightly proud of his contribution.

He has also been part of the Sale Sharks U18 squad this season.

Speaking on his signing, Jack said “I’m really happy to sign for Hoppers for next season and I’m looking forward to being part of the squad and learning from the coaching staff and the rest of the boys. I want to be able to contribute to the squad and towards a positive season”.

Head of Rugby Operations Gareth Dyer said “We are really pleased to have signed Jack for next season. He is a very promising young player with a good attitude who is prepared to work hard at his game. I am sure he will benefit from being under the tutelage of Paul Arnold, who as a coach is not afraid to give good young players their opportunity. Arnie also knows a thing or two about playing in the row.

It is important that we continue to develop young players and make Lightfoot Green an attractive option for promising young players to come and learn the game and know that if they work hard they will get opportunities”.
