Hoppers visit Upper Eden – 1987?

Date: 19 February 2012

An earlier article about memorabilia of the club being stored away and thought very little about has developed somewhat.

One such discovery was unearthed a few weeks ago when stopping for refreshment on our return journey from Westoe. I happened on one of one of our past players Mark Peatfield, now living in the Kirkby Steven area who talked about a number of old fixture cards in his possession from the 1930’s and asked to be remembered to all who knew him from his Hoppers and Upper Eden days.

A subsequent e-mail from Mark has provided photographs of a couple of Hoppers teams’ visiting Upper Eden, with a request for a list of names. The pictures were probably taken during October 1987, and if so it was a successful day for the Strollers who defeated the home 2nd XV by sixteen points to fifteen, although our ‘B’ XV (4ths) featured in the other photograph, were about to be given a sound beating from the home 1st XV, fifty one points to four.

Mark’s fading memory thinks the game coincided with a significant Birthday for Jim Melrose?
