PGRFC have been working diligently on bolstering the 1st XV squad for their return to National Two North. A number of new players have been recruited and we will be releasing details of the new faces over the coming days and weeks as we build towards the start of the 2022/23 season.
The first announcement is the arrival of Number 8 Scott Richardson. Scott joins the Lightfoot Green club from Blackburn RUFC where he has enjoyed a number of highly consistent seasons after beginning his rugby journey at Fleetwood RFC. He represented the Lancashire Royals whilst at Fleetwood and has become a powerful ball carrier after moving from the blindside position to the back of the scrum.
Scott impressed against Hoppers in all three games last season, scoring hat tricks in two of the games. He was a regular try scorer throughout the season scoring 18 tries in a standout season. Keen to test himself at a higher level he has made the move to Hoppers and at the age 28 he is coming into his prime.
Head Coach Joel Unsworth said “We are delighted to welcome Scott to the club. He is someone that impressed against Hoppers during the last campaign and we feel he will add a lot to the way we want to play. He carries well, is a good lineout option and covers the ground well. We feel we can challenge him to get better as a player and I am really enjoying already working with him”.
