John Ainsworth

Date: 07 December 2012

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of a long term supporter of Preston Grasshoppers’, John Ainsworth, who passed away on Monday 26 November 2012 at the age of 73.

Whilst John was an extremely good footballer, starting his career with Malvern College first team followed by regular appearances with the Liverpool Ramblers first team, he always supported Preston Grasshoppers’ spanning over 40 years, attending most first team games with Chris Mould and also having once played a first team match alongside David Parker at scrum half.  He also brought his sons, Robert & Richard to play on Sunday mornings with the minis.

In his younger days, John also enjoyed playing cricket and was a regular player on a Sunday at Whittingham Hospital for the Royal Preston Hospital Consultants.

One of John’s favourite activities was his involvement with Whitechapel Players where he acted, directed and produced in over 30/40 plays with the biggest production in the last few months being that of the Calendar Girls, which was the first ever production of the show outside the professional theatre circuit.

He will be sadly missed by many members of the Club and our thoughts go to his sons Robert and Richard and family.

The funeral is at St Mary the Virgin Church, Goosnargh, Preston at 12.15 pm on Monday 10th December and afterwards back at Preston Grasshoppers.
