John Chesworth, Ironman

Date: 23 July 2012

Congratulations to former 1st XV captain and management committee member John Chesworth who yesterday competed an Ironman Triathlon in 14hrs and 21mins.

An Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim followed by a 112 mile bike ride. As if that wasn’t enough competitors finish by running a marathon which is 26.2 miles.

Here are John’s own words as to why he competed.

”Good friends of mine have a son who suffers from severe learning difficulties.  The sensory facilities at the Space Centre, Peddars Lane Preston, provide their son with an environment that stimulates and sooths him.  The Space Centre is currently undergoing improvements which in total will cost £3million and donations will go towards these costs.  You can find out more from their website http://www.thespacecentre.org/SpaceCentral/home.html.

You can give to this great cause and show your support for both John and the Space Centre by following this link and donating.
