Three of our Junior teams played in the finals of the Blacksticks Blue (Lancashire) Junior Challenge Cup on Sunday at Fylde’s Woodlands Memorial ground, and Hoppers came away with two cup wins.
The Under 14s emphatically beat Fylde 50-0 to retain the Cup that they won last year. The opening exchanges went in Fylde’s favour, but Hoppers gradually exerted control and the scores followed at regular intervals with hat-tricks for both Kieran and Sam D.
The Under 15s faced the toughest test against title holders Manchester. Hoppers started strongly taking the lead with two well worked tries but found the going harder and harder as the game wore on slipping to a 45-10 defeat. Disappointment for the boys after such a great effort to get to the final.
The Under 16s also retained the Cup with a 23-17 win against Fylde to make it three Cup wins in a row for this team. Tries from Pye (2), Wood and Man of the Match Browne along with a Bashall penalty sealed it for Hoppers. Despite a late try from Fylde, Hoppers managed to hold their nerve and close out another Cup final victory.
