Long Called up for Heroes

Date: 01 December 2011

PGRFC can confirm that Sean Long has been called into the Northern Hemisphere XV for this weekend’s Help for Heroes fund raiser against a Southern Hemisphere XV at Twickenham (Kick off 4.30pm). Sean responded to a call from former Hoppers and England legend Will Greenwood who is part of the Northern Hemisphere XV and is also involved in organising the match.

Chairman of Rugby, Mike Bailey, said “We are delighted for Sean that he has the opportunity to play at Twickenham. It has been an ambition of his to play in a union game at HQ for many years and that he can do so in support of such a great charity is superb. Obviously this means that Sean misses our important league fixture with Huddersfield this weekend but it didn’t even cross our minds to stand in Sean’s way when the call came.”

He added, ”We are developing close links with the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment who are based at Fulwood Barracks and having got to know some of the Officers well, we understand the importance of the charity. Hearing of their tours in Afghanistan brings home the reality of what our brave men and women go through on the front line and to be able to play even a minor supporting role in Saturday’s fixture through Sean’s appearance brings a sense of pride”.

The game is also live on Sky Sports 1, coverage starts at 4pm.
