Longy to represent Barbarians, 6 in Lancashire squad

Date: 02 May 2012

PGRFC are delighted that a number of players have been selected to receive representative honours. Sean Long has been picked to play for the illustrious Barbarians RFC in their match against Loughborough Students on Wednesday 9th May. The game is being played as a celebration match as the Students open their brand new stadium which will host the University’s rugby and football teams. Sean joins a select list of Hoppers players who have been selected for the Barbarians joining the likes of Wade Dooley and most recently former scrum half Darren Wilson.

Meanwhile scrum half Nathan Fowles, number 8 Dominic Moon, prop Richard Morton, 2nd row Wayne Steel, back row Matthew Charters and wing Matthew Hughes are all in the Lancashire training squad preparing for this season’s county championship squad. This is just reward for these players who have enjoyed excellent campaigns for the club this season. Lancashire are defending champions and face Northumberland in their opening game at Vale of Lune on Saturday 5th May. They then travel to face roses rivals Yorkshire at Scarborough RFC on 12th May before finishing the pool games with a match against Cheshire at Broughton Park RFC on 19th May. Should they top the group then they will face the winners of the Southern Group in the County Final at Twickenham on 27th May. The full training squad can be viewed here.

Congratulations to all the lads from everyone at the club.
