Preston Grasshoppers vs. Lymm – Kick Off 3:00pm, 19th Feb 2022
After bringing to an end Blackburn’s run of eight wins on the trot last week, Hoppers travel down the M6 this Saturday to face a Lymm side who also lost a long unbeaten sequence last Saturday at League leaders Otley.
Lymm had won their six previous games before last week and will no doubt be a totally different prospect to the side Hoppers put sixty six points on back in October.
With Billingham losing once again last week, it now looks like being a three horse race for promotion at the end of April. Otley travel to Lightfoot Green in two weeks time and Billingham have yet to visit Blackburn, which won’t help their cause.
In a thrilling game at Lightfoot Green last Saturday in front of Hoppers biggest crowd of the season, the game turned with the wind after half time when Hoppers took control. An “Alex Ferguson Moment” in the Hoppers dressing room during the interval may well have also had something to do with it?
Our records show just five meetings between Hoppers and Lymm, the first back on the 19th of February 1983 when the Cheshire side gave Hoppers a fixture after Solihull couldn’t fulfil the scheduled one. Lymm won that first game on home soil by twenty points to Hoppers fifteen, only for the visitors to gain revenge on the 6th of December 1997 at the same venue when they were victorious by thirty nine points to seventeen. There were two close fought League games back in the 2017/18 season in which Hoppers ran out winners in both by narrow margins, then came Hoppers big win mentioned previously.
The 1869 Club are running a supporters coach to the game, departing the Clubhouse at 11am with the usual arrangements.
