This weekend’s match sponsors are our brewery suppliers Marstons Beer Company, part of one of the country’s top pub businesses and the leading brewer of premium cask and bottled beers.
They operate five breweries producing over 60 of the country’s best loved ales at sites in: Burton on Trent (Marston’s), Oxfordshire (Wychwood & Brakspear), Cumbria (Jennings), Hampshire (Ringwood) and the West Midlands (Banks’s).
The ‘parent’ company, Wolverhampton & Dudley, came into being when three breweries in the Midlands came together in 1890. A century or so later in 1999, Marston, Thompson & Evershed was acquired, including the historic Marstons Brewery in Burton which pioneered the unique Burton Union System of brewing in the 1830s, still used for the production of popular beer Pedigree.
In 2007 the company adopted the name of Marstons, a brewing brand that has existed since 1834 and continued to expand through further acquisitions until recently in 2015 they took over the trading operations of Thwaites Beer Division with whom Preston Grasshoppers have a long and successful relationship. Under the new arrangements, the club has been able to maintain supplies of its staple beers, Original (‘Rough’ to the initiated) and Wainwright as well as a whole new portfolio of popular beers and lagers to foster (excuse the pun) the ‘free house’ image.
Marstons is also keen to maintain and develop the special relationship with promotional support such as tomorrow’s sponsorship. The party is headed up by account handler Chris Hurst and Richard Mills.
