Mini Junior Pitch Improvement Programme

Date: 19 May 2017

Work has commenced on the second phase of the Pitch Improvement Programme, targeting the Mini’s pitches.

Continuing to follow the recommendations of a survey undertaken by the Sport Turf Research Institute, the Mini’s pitches are being rotavated – with additional top soil being added, levelled and re-seeded.  Hopefully allowing plenty of time for the new grass to grow prior to the start of the new season.

The works will allow surface water to drain more easily into the pipe drainage system installed twelve months ago, as the first  recommendation of the survey. They will also eliminate the hollows, which have allowed the surface water to collect in the first place!  Levelling the playing surface will allow more flexible use of the area – accommodating up to four Mini pitches, or one full size pitch.

In addition the increased depth of top soil will lead to maximising the effective use of the new vertidrainer, the recent purchase of which was funded jointly by Mini Juniors and Sport England.

The project has the added benefit of using the top soil removed from the first team pitch prior to the installation of the AGP, thereby improving the general appearance of the club’s facilities.

The entire project is being funded by the Mini Junior section using funds raised at recent Sportsman’s Dinners. A big thank you to all guests and sponsors.
