Mini / Junior weekend round-up – 11/2/18

Date: 13 February 2018

The weather tried its best to ruin the weekends rugby, but with the Minis away at Kendal  on their AGP and 3 games at Hoppers on our AGP, there was still plenty of rugby played.

There was a great turnout at Kendal for the Under 7s who all braved the snowy cold conditions. Hoppers had 3 teams present, all showing development in their skills.

The Under 9s were expecting a frosty and cold day up at Kendal but the sun shone at times. The Hoppers teams also out shone Kendal on the pitch with some decent team play and the players are becoming more aware of playing as a team as oppose to 7 individuals on a pitch. Well done to all.

The Under 14s hosted Widnes in club friendly, Hoppers made most of the running in the game but were not at their best. The cold windy conditions made passing moves difficult, and mistakes stopped the flow of the game.  Hoppers closed out the win and continue to build confidence through the team.

The Under 15s have not had a good time in the Cup this year. That run continued when they were beaten comfortably at home by Wigan in the final game of the pool stages. Hoppers will have to pick themselves up for the Plate or Vase quarter finals in a couple of weeks.

The Under 16s had an away walk over in their final Cup pool game, Fylde were unable to field a team.  Hoppers topped Pool B and are unbeaten so far, they now await the draw for the Cup Quarter finals.

The Colts suffered a 41-10 defeat to Northwich.  The game was switched to Hoppers due to unfit pitches in Northwich, but Hoppers did not play any where near their best in a game where Northwich grew in confidence as the game went on. Hoppers made too many mistakes trying to force the pace while missed tackles also cost them dearly. Tries from Hill and Slater were only consolations.
