Mini / Junior weekend round-up

Date: 17 February 2017

The Minis faced Stockport this weekend, while the Junior sides wrapped up their Lancashire Junior Challenge pool matches.

The Under 6s and Under 7s continued their training at Tulketh, where game play focused on some key skills. As well as scoring trys players were awarded double points for moving into space and drawing in defenders, before passing out wide.

The Under 8s welcomed a well drilled Stockport squad. The visiting side were strong in both attack and defence. Despite the extreme and biting wind, Hoppers braved the weather and came back from Stockport’s initial dominance and scored some tries with great support play to equal up the play in all games.

The Under 14s beat Waterloo 17-15 at home on the AGP. Despite falling 2 tries behind, Hoppers came back to score 3 tries of their own and crucially kicked the conversion that was ultimately the difference between the two sides. Waterloo scored with the last play of the game but couldn’t land the kick from out wide in the strong breeze. The U14s will take their place in the Quarter Final of the main Cup competition.

The Under 15s overcame Southport 29-5 at home on the AGP in their final Lancashire Challenge cup group match. Hoppers outmuscled their opponents scoring a number of tries though the wind proved very tricky for kicking. This result should see them finish 5th in group A to go through to the Plate competition.

Despite not playing this weekend, the Under 16s have also qualified for the main cup competition having finished third in their pool.
