Mini / Junior weekend round-up

Date: 07 March 2017

A number of Minis teams made the journey over to Altrincham this weekend while there was Cup action for some of our Junior teams.

The Under 7s squad travelled to Altrincham at the weekend. Despite the threat of rain and poor pitch conditions, none were deterred and we arrived 12 strong. The conditions were tough, but the team showed great resolve and battled hard scoring a number of very worthy trys. Well done Hoppers!

The horrendous weather conditions didn’t dampen the Under 8s determination and enjoyment of the game we all love. The rain and cold caused a number of the Altrincham opposition squad to retreat to the warmth of the clubhouse. Hoppers battled on through and played some great team rugby showing true Hoppers grit. Well done to all.

The Under 11s travelled to Altrincham and back to real grass and very real mud with a bang. With the going very heavy, everyone got their heads down and stuck to the task at hand with absolute minimal complaining, not only facing up to the conditions but also a much larger team. The final score ended up 4-1 to the hosts, with our try coming from a moment of brilliance, combined with a certain amount of luck and invention, with the ball being run from our own try line the full length of the pitch, with a chip over the Altrincham defence line to add in to the mix.  All in all a really good mornings rugby, with some excellent play in terrible conditions.

The Under 14s suffered defeat 0-5 at home to Waterloo in the Quarter Final of the Lancashire Junior Challenge Cup. Waterloo scored first and managed to control the game for long periods in the first half.  Despite pressure in the second period, Hoppers couldn’t get a score.

The Under 15s beat local rivals Fylde 30-10 to progress into the semi-final of the Plate competition. Hoppers were quicker and more positive than Fylde in the first half and established a lead that was never challenged.
