Mini / Junior weekend round-up

Date: 29 March 2017

The weather came to the rescue this weekend, drying out the pitches after the deluge of the previous week. Saturday saw the visit of Anselmians who brought four of their age groups on tour, on Sunday Vale were able to host their Festival for Under 7s, 8s and 9s postponed from last weekend and the AGP was in full use by the Junior sides.

The Under 7s, spurred on by some great weather, competed this weekend in two festivals. Huddersfield and Vale of Lune hosted and put on great events. Some promising game play led to all our players being awarded with a medal and tournament certificate. Great fun was had by all.

The Under 9s squad entered three teams into the VOL festival. This event had been hastily rearranged from the washout of the previous weekend and we were fortunate to have a full day of playing rugby in the sun. As an age grade rugby festival the format was round robin with each team playing each other without progression through to a final stage. No finals stage does not mean the games were not competitive and the Hoppers Players put heart and soul into every match. Over the course of 17 matches played Hoppers finished with stats of 11 Won, 2 Drew and 4 Lost and the everyone contributed brilliantly on the day. A special thank you to all of the Mums who gave up a day of pampering on Mothers Day to support the squad.

The Under 15s had a home game against Sedgley Park. In the sunshine and on the AGP, a tight first half saw the teams level at 5-5, but a great second half performance by Hoppers scoring 24 unanswered points resulted in a win 29-5.
