Mini / Junior weekend round-up

Date: 13 April 2017

Sunday saw the first day of the Hoppers Festival of rugby for the youngest age groups and we were blessed with fantastic weather for the event requiring plenty of sun-cream and rehydration.  It was also ‘business as usual’ for the remainder of the section with Junior sides in Cup action.

The Under 7s 20 strong squad took over the new Artificial Grass Pitch this weekend for ‘The Hoppers Festival’. The festival saw squads from all over the north west competing in friendly competition. All squad members gave their finest performance and were reward with a medal for their achievement. Our newest member Joel joined the squad and took to the task with ease being warmly welcomed by all. It was great to hear numerous comments from the opposition coaches and parents about the club, the pitch and most importantly the squad, (Both skill and behaviour). A big thank you goes to all the parents and the children for their efforts over the last year.

The Under 12s completed the round-robin phase of the Lancashire U12s Waterfall competition by beating both Vale of Lune and Fylde to top their group and remain unbeaten. They will now look forward with relish to the Waterfall Finals day on 7th May.

The Under 15s won away at Widnes 22-0 in the semi final of the Lancashire Junior Challenge Plate. Hoppers will now face Leigh in the Plate Final on Sunday 23rd April, final will be held at Aldwinians RFC.

The Under 16s lost away in the Development Cup against a very strong Vale of Lune side, it was a great first half display by Hoppers to be drawing 12-12 at half time but Hoppers faded as Vale emptied their bench to bring on fresh legs, final score 33-12. The lads should be proud of this performance as they battled and kept their heads right to the final whistle.
