Mini Junior Weekend Round-up – 28/1/18

Date: 02 February 2018

The Minis were all away this weekend with only a couple of Junior teams at home.

The Under 7s sent teams to both Wigan and Blackburn this week with great results. Despite the cold and rain all Hoppers teams were competitive and are really developing in their passing and closing down of the opposition. Great teamwork from all.

The Under 14s entertained Warrington on Sunday. Previous encounters had gone the way of the visitors so the revitalised Hoppers Under 14s had a big test ahead. With a couple of absentees, only 17 players were available and the opposition had brought 19 players who were part of a very large 31 man squad. Hoppers started well and for the first twenty minutes had territory and possession. Tries came but were unconverted in the testing wind and with the usual kicker was side-lined. In the second half it was only going to be a matter of time before the visitors were stirred into action. They scored fairly early in the second half and Hoppers knew they needed to up their game. A closely matched second half saw Hoppers finally make the game safe after a converted try but with Warrington coming back all the time, the final whistle was timely, Hoppers winning 22-10.

The Under 16s lost 0-50 at home to Warrington. Hoppers were again affected by Lancashire call ups but struggled to cope with the organisation and discipline of the Warrington side.

The Under 13s Girls took part in a “Pitch up and play” event at Sedgley, they all enjoyed getting some game time! The Under 15s and Under 18s also took part in a “Pitch up and play” at Littleborough.

Hoppers are also hosting a “Pitch up and play” on Saturday 3rd Feb at 9:30 before the Senior Ladies game! All girls aged 11-17 welcome as we will have a small training session then into small games.
