Mini / Junior weekend round-up

Date: 28 April 2015

It was Minis Festival day on Sunday at Hoppers – over 400 players descended on Lightfoot Green in glorious sunshine – thanks to all the volunteers that made it a great day for everyone.

On the pitch the Under 6’s stepped in to help out at the Festival as a team dropped out. 12 of of eligible players had the confidence to battle it out with more experienced and older teams in one of the U7 round robin table. We were successful in their first game winning by 1 try against Kendal but sadly lost their remaining three games. It was a great effort by the boys considering the age different and also lack of tag rugby experience. It was a good platform to start with for next year when most of the boys will go up to the next age level

The Under 8s entered two teams into the Festival, the Hoppers team started brightly but were unlucky not to progress past the group stage, the Fireflies team continued the great season for the Under 8s by winning their group and semi-final, coming from behind to beat local rivals Fylde in the final to add to victory in the Vale Festival and unbeaten at Huddersfield..

The Under 10s played their best rugby yet – they were fantastic! They beat Waterloo 9-0 and Kirby Lonsdale 11-0 and eventually lost 1-0 in the final to Sefton! A great day for the lads with too many great performances to pick from.

The Under 15s were in action in the final of the Blacksticks Blue Lancashire Junior Challenge Cup held at Southport, the Under 15s beat Eccles 50-19 to claim their third Junior Cup in a row in a fantastic display of attacking rugby.

The Junior Colts faced Chester in the Raging Bull League Bowl final held at Eccles and came away with the silverware winning 24-17 in a close fought contest – on to the Lancashire Cup final next weekend for this group of players.
