Mini / Junior weekend round-up

Date: 17 December 2013

The Minis entertained various teams from Kendal, Ormskirk and Rossendale this weekend.  The Under 11s started well against Kendal, moving the ball nicely and retaining possession to take a strong lead eventually running in 6 tries (3 converted), but then, as Kendal found their feet and started to gel with their borrowed players Hoppers began to miss some crucial tackles and were less dominant at the breakdown letting Kendal come back with 3 converted tries – 2 of which were scored by a Grasshopper!! So in the end a reasonable 36-21 win.  The Under 12s played a four quarter game against Ormskirk winning all four and enabling the whole squad game time.

Three of the Junior teams were in Blacksticks Blue (Lancs) Cup action this weekend in the 5th Round of games.

The Under 13s lost a close game away at Sefton 26-31, 2 very early tries followed by 2 very late tries gave Sefton the victory in a hard fought game in which Hoppers played the best rugby for most of the match. Weak tackling let Hoppers down again but they did pick up a losing bonus point.

The Under 14s continued their winning run in the Cup beating a hard working Warrington side 30*-0, highlight being 4 tries from winger Nathan.

The Under 15s had no game this weekend.  The Under 16s had another convincing win in their round five cup game with a 37*-7 win away at Wigan.

The Junior Colts had no game this weekend, while the Senior Colts put in a good performance to win away at Wirral 47-17
