Mini / Junior weekend roundup

Date: 12 March 2014

The Under 10s, 11s and 12s were competing in the Vale Of Lune festival this weekend:

The Under 10s started slowly losing to Vale and Wilmslow but came back after the break to beat Ormskirk and earn a really good win over Waterloo. Some excellent play from all boys but player of the tournament was Rocco Williams who contributed to both wins with his strong running and outstanding defence.

The Under 11’s played really well, coming second in their group, only losing to Wilmslow (the eventual winners). Hopppers didn’t fair so well in the next round for the Plate, where they lost two reasonably close games to Vale and Sefton. It was a long day – everybody was worn out after giving 100%.

In the Juniors, Under 13s, 15s and 16s were all at home:

The Under 13s played Bowden at home in a friendly, despite playing some good rugby Hoppers came off second best. It was a good game though played in a good spirit by both sides.

The Under 15s beat Bowdon 45-0. After the exertions of the Cup the previous week this Sunday saw a return to a friendly fixture against visitors Bowdon. With only 18 players reporting fit for duty and depleted numbers in the backs, a number of free running forwards were given the freedom to express themselves with their fleet footed brethren. A well contested game played in good spirit by both teams with the result being that everyone had a good run out which was enjoyed by all.

The Under 16s beat Liverpool Collegiate in a delayed Lancashire Cup Quarter final, Hoppers started brightly with 3 early tries and then withstood the Collegiate forward onslaught late in the first half to run out comfortable winners in the end 30*-0.  A Semi-final away to Manchester now awaits the Under 16s.
