Mini/Junior rugby weekend round-up

Date: 22 February 2017

Widnes were the opponents for most of our Mini and Junior teams last weekend.

The Under 7s hosted a small squad from Blackpool at home on the Tulketh indoor pitch. It was great to see the determination of the Blackpool squad who fought hard to break through a strong Hoppers defence. Once again Hoppers defensive game showed that skills learned during recent training was becoming instinctive. It was especially rewarding to see teamwork, one of our core values, in action. Player of the week trophy went to Will Davies who showed great discipline and was instrumental in the defence and building try scoring play.

The Under 13s beat Widnes 20-15 on the AGP. The team held their nerve to close out a good win to top off a series of improving performances over the past few weeks.

The Under 15s beat Widnes 26-15 at home on the AGP. Hoppers started slowly and conceeded a penalty early on but hit back with an interception try to take the lead that they never surrendered despite a spirited Widnes performance.

The Colts featured a mix of Under 16, 17 and 18s for their home game against Liverpool St Helens. Hoppers started brightly opening the scoring through Cadley but lost out 24-14 to a well drilled LSH side. Some good passages of the play from Hoppers but not quite enough to  beat a more established side.
