Mini/Junior weekend round-up

Date: 02 March 2017

It was a weather disrupted weekend with many games cancelled due to waterlogged pitches but the AGP allowed us to put on rugby for a significant number of our Minis and Juniors.

The Under 7s team welcomed a large, formidable squad from Waterloo. With a similarly strong squad we fill all three pitches at our undercover venue at Tulketh. The points were hard fought with both sides showing a very competent performance on attack and defence. Team values were strong on both sides. A great credit to both clubs. Hoppers player of the week award went to our newest player Lucas Gardner who has committed to the sport and the team with great skill and enthusiasm. Well done Lucas!!

The Under 8s faced a well drilled side from Waterloo. All players relished the opportunity of playing on the AGP. Hoppers displayed strong attacking play but there was much improvement in Hoppers defence causing a number of turnovers for 6 tags and putting pressure on Waterloo’s attacking game. Some great tries as a result of support play with strong straight running also resulting in some individual players tries.

The Under 16s lost 37*-7 to Manchester in the Quarter final of the Lancashire Junior Challenge Cup.  After a promising start and leading 7-5 midway through the first half, Hoppers were run ragged by the slick and pacey Manchester backs.

The Under 13s girls teamed up with Vale for a tournament away at Orrell where they exceeded expectations for their first official game! With numbers growing all the time, the future is looking very bright for Hoppers girls.
