Mini/Junior weekend round-up

Date: 25 November 2015

The weather relented to allow the Minis to entertain Sedgley Park this weekend.

The Under 7s played against 2 teams from Sedgley Park. The games were well contested with both teams having opportunity to play some good rugby and show some good individual skills. Thanks goes to the Hoppers players who helped make up some of the numbers for Sedgley Park when some of their players tired towards the end, this left some of parents unsure who to shout for!

The Under 12s had their first round matches in the Lancs Minis Festival cup on Sunday, with a loss to Fylde and a win over hosts Fleetwood, it was a solid start with two more rounds of matches to come.

The Junior teams were in Blacksticks Blue Challenge Cup action this weekend with games carried over from the previous weekend due to the weather.

The Under 13s had a walk-over as Didsbury were unable to raise a team but accepted a welcome late invitation to travel to Aspull  resulted in a very friendly encounter, where, due to their small squad, Hoppers managed to get all players involved for majority of the game – either playing for Hoppers or Aspull! Well done to those who volunteered to play for the opposition. Although the result went easily in Hoppers favour (despite attempts to try and balance the sides) this was all about development for both teams.

The Under 14s beat Sedgley Park away 5-0 in a fiercely contested match while the Under 15s had a walk over as Clitheroe were unable to raise a team.

The Under 16s eased past a game Widnes team 42-12 at home to consolidate their position in pool A. Hoppers were able to stretch the Widnes defence to allow room for the backs to run in 4 tries in the first half while the forwards contributed 3 tries of their own in the second half.
