Mooney Sets a new National try scoring record

Congratulations go to Dominic Moon as his seven try haul has set a new all time try scoring record in National Rugby for a Forward!

Added to that, no one has ever scored more than seven tries in a match in the top four levels of League Rugby which goes back to 1987. His seven try haul equals Gaz Collins and Nick Royle’s efforts against Hull Ionians and Orrell respectively, plus the Ealing Trailfinder’s record breaking winger Phil Chesters who scored seven on two occasions last season.

My thoughts are that the previous best from a Hopper in a league game, was five from Iain Bruce against Winnington Park on the 30th of January 1999.

Added to Mooney’s achievement the ninety points to five victory against Otley last Saturday surpassed the previous best back in March 2000 when Camberley were put to the sword at Lightfoot Green, Hoppers winning margin that day was eighty three points to twelve.
