No Place Like Home for Alex

Date: 02 June 2018

It has been a breakthrough season for former Hoppers Mini-Junior Alex Ward. Thrust into the important fly-half role in October, Alex has been a regular in the Number 10 jersey and has shown increasing maturity and assurance in his play over the course of the Championship winning season.

Speaking on his decision to commit, Alex said “I have really enjoyed this season. The opportunity to play for the 1st XV having been at the club since I was 6 years old has been brilliant. When the club asked me to sign again for next year it was a simple decision for me as this place has been my home for 15 years. Looking forward to next season it’s exciting times for the club with the opportunity to go up to National 2 and to show what we can do. There are no expectations on us from outside so we will just look forward to the new challenges that we will face and see how far we can go.”

Head Coach Paul Arnold said “Alex has grown in his play over the season and it is always pleasing when a young player takes his chance and listens to how to improve themselves. Alex kicking game has been strong and he has improved his threat with ball in hand. He still has lots to learn but he’s a home-grown lad with a good head on his shoulders and I’m looking forward to seeing him improve further”.
