North West Emerging Schools Finals

Date: 23 November 2011

This Friday sees Preston Grasshoppers host the North West emerging schools finals, for school years 7 (U12’s) & 8 (U13’s).

This follows the hosting of the emerging schools North Lancashire qualifier events over the past couple months. With the year 9 event on the 29th September, year 8 event on October 4th, year 11 event October 20th and the year 7 festival on the 3rd of November.

These events, aimed at your non traditional rugby playing schools, have been running for many years but have never been so well attended by local Preston schools. This highlighting the positive impact of Preston Grasshoppers community outreach work with community coach Kai Burns.

Local secondary schools Our Ladies Preston, Broughton Business and Enterprise College, Corpus Christi Sports College and Archbishop Temple respectively, all entered the competitions at various age groups this year. This coupled with entries from Ashton and Fullwood schools last year, whom could unfortunately not make the dates this year, represents six local schools now playing rugby union.

Following on from the competitions some schools are now playing independent fixtures, in many cases, for the first time in recent years. We are already seeing the benefits of these competitions and fixtures with new recruits to the clubs mini-junior section. This is likely to increase with the introduction of local school fixture evenings at the club after Christmas.

If you feel you would like to assist with the fixture evenings commencing in the New Year, whether it be officiating, score keeper or first aid then your time would be greatly appreciated. Please contact community coach Kai Burns for further details – Mob: 07894489730, email: kaiburns@rfu.com
