Oga and Trips Make a Royal Debut

Date: 21 November 2017

Last Wednesday PGRFC 1st XV players Oga Mabaya (sponsored by JSI Krempel) and Oli Trippier (sponsored by Guys Thatched Hamlet) made their senior county debuts when they represented the Lancashire Royals XV against the Cheshire Harvesters at Sedgley Tigers Park Lane ground.

The Royals came into being last season and is an avenue for talented and ambitious players competing at Level 5 and below to gain county recognition. Selection is restricted to players competing at these league levels and players who have previously played for the Senior XV are ineligible.

The Cheshire side in the end were comfortable winners by 8-42 with their greater experience being noticeable in the game’s defining areas. However, both Oga and Oli showed up well and are rewarded for their excellent club form in the season to date.

Head of Rugby Operations Gareth Dyer said “This was a good experience for both Oga and Oli and I am sure they both enjoyed pulling on their county shirt. It’s always difficult to arrange representative games during a season as club commitments make extra county training sessions difficult to attend but this was sensibly arranged during a rest week in the league campaign. Hopefully we will be able to see Oga, Oli and other members of the squad pull on the Royals jersey – and of course the senior jersey later in the season”.

The next Royals fixture is due to be against the Anti-Assassins with a date and venue to be confirmed.
