With pre-season now underway, Hoppers are leaving no stone unturned as they seek to improve on last season’s playing performance. Last night saw a highly enjoyable session with well known Sports Psychologist Damian Hughes who put the squad and coaches through their paces with regards to improving communication and thought processes for the season ahead. Damian is an international speaker, best-selling author and sports psychology consultant who takes the insights, methods and lessons by business, sports and history’s greatest achievers and shares them through his speaking, training and books to help others enjoy similar success. He is currently employed with Warrington Wolves and the England Rugby League team and has a wealth of experience and knowledge having worked closely with some of sports leading names during his career including Sir Alex Ferguson, Tiger Woods, Muhammed Ali and Jonny Wilkinson. He has also worked with leading businessmen such as Sir Richard Branson and Sir Terry Leahy.
Hoppers assistant coach Karl Fitzpatrick who works with Damian at the Wolves said “It was a really good session for us as a group and certainly gave everyone plenty to think about. The lads really responded to what Damian was saying to them and the interaction between the group and Damian showed that people were getting a lot out of the session. Damian said afterward he was really impressed with the session and we are determined as both players and coaches to apply the processes put forward in the meeting to build a better environment in which to play our rugby. Damian is keen to meet the lads again and take the basics of last night forward and help both the group and individuals to really get the best out of themselves as we prepare for the coming season”.
