PGRFC Sesquicentenary Charity Golf Event sponsored by Infinium a Huge Success

Date: 15 July 2021

The three times Covid postponed Hoppers Charity golf event was finally held to great acclaim at the Ashton and Lea Golf course last Friday.

30 teams of four competed on an immaculate course in the best weather of the week and raised almost £4000 thanks to the generous support of a host of club, local and individual sponsors. They, along with the golfers themselves, dug deep in support of the three chosen charities; St Catherine’s Hospice, Alive and Kicking and The Alzheimer’s Society.

The winning team were Susan and Roger Hetherington, Emy and Phil Aceret- Burgess of Wilpshire Golf Club shown below on the 1st tee with President Keith Brierley resplendent in suitably festive attire and concentrating on holding onto the Alive and Kicking Sesquicentenary commemorative rugby ball.

In the evening, over 60 participants, guests and sponsors returned to the Terrace Bar @Hoppers for the official Prize presentation hosted by the four Strollers organisers, Hoppers players Paul Carroll, Max Horton, Ian McFarlane and Keith Aitchison.

Dick Greenwood, former Hoppers and England Captain and Coach greeted Sponsors, presented the winners with their prizes and in his highly entertaining comments commended the Hoppers for the values the club displays as a beacon of the game.

Keith Aitchison gave a heartfelt vote of thanks to the teams of staff and helpers at both Hoppers and Ashton and Lea Golf Club who had worked so hard to make a very special day highly successful and enjoyable for all involved in aid of the charitable causes.
