Preston Grasshoppers Women withdrawal from Championship 2 North

Date: 03 November 2022

It is with regret that Preston Grasshoppers Women’s Team have made the decision to withdraw, with immediate effect, from Championship 2 North.

In the interest of player safety, the team felt it was the most sensible and fair decision to withdraw from the league as a result of low player numbers, loosing players to injury and relocation.

Preston Grasshoppers Women’s Team were due to celebrate their 20 years since the team was founded this year and it is with great sadness that the team has had to pause their competitive league campaign for the 2022-23 season.

Team manager Natalie Jones along with head coach Sam Cleaver and assistant coach Jason Shadwell have all committed to staying with the team and are ready to put in the work needed as the team rebuilds.

They have announced “although we are saddened to have had to make this hard decision, we are very much committed to the project of recruitment and development of the current team in order to re-apply into a league again for the 23-24 season.”

The team will continue to train as normal on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-8.30pm and welcome anyone looking to come an enjoy the great game of rugby. It is hoped to arrange some friendly matches during the season.
