Reed Scotland Call Up

Date: 22 January 2024

As a club we are delighted to see former Mini Junior Arron Reed called up the Scotland squad for the upcoming Six Nations.

Arron has been in great form for Sale Sharks, scoring some sensational tries in the Premiership. It was nice to see Sale recognising Arron’s roots with social media posts showing Arron wearing the Hoppers kit alongside Tom Roebuck who played his youth rugby at Chester.

Arron’s former coach at Hoppers, Jerry Sturgess, shared these words about Aron’s time at Hoppers.

“Always a class act! Myself and one of the other Preston Grasshopper coaches saw Reedy at a Lancashire youth trial and I persuaded him and his father to come join us at Hoppers Under 15s as we were building a team. We could tell then he was a standout player and not just because of his blond hair. As well as his speed there was something very different and special about him. He was always destined for the top. Throughout that season and next we tried him across most of our young back line as being a class above most of the others at that level we wanted him on the ball as early as possible to make things happen, but his undeniable talent was his ability to beat the defender and hunt for that try line. What is nice to report is that Reedy was not just a special talent on the pitch he was a decent and honest young man off it and still is, always polite and respectful and happy to take coaching advice despite training and playing at higher levels with county and Sale academy set ups. He deserves all his successes and will always be fondly remember for those days at Lightfoot Lane. I’m lucky that I still see Arron from time to time and he’s got time to chat and reminisce. It truly is part of the immense joy as a coach at any level to see their players blossom and despite being involved in only a small part of his journey, I think his time at Preston Grasshoppers will always be with him.”
