Sean Long commits to Hoppers

Date: 15 April 2012

Preston Grasshoppers RFC are delighted to announce that Sean Long has committed to play for the club in the 2012/13 season. Long who is assistant coach at Super League side Salford City Reds  made his 12th appearance of the season in Saturday’s home game against Otley. The former St. Helens, Hull FC and Great Britain rugby league star has settled well into life at Lightfoot Green and has quickly become a key member of the squad both on and off the field.

Speaking on his decision to commit for a further season Sean said “I’ve really enjoyed my time with Preston so far. It’s a really good group of lads who work hard for each other and they’ve all made me feel really welcome at the club. I’m enjoying passing bits onto the lads and the coaches Dave (Baldwin) and Karl (Fitzpatrick) have created a really good environment. My main focus is Salford but I’ve been able to train and play regularly at Preston and I’m really enjoying being back on the field”.

On behalf of PGRFC Chairman of Rugby Michael Bailey said “We are delighted that Sean has committed to the club for next season. Its obvious that Sean has really enjoyed being part of the club and the lads have really responded to having someone of Sean’s profile in the ranks. He has quickly got to grips with the technicalities of union and his class and growing influence on the side have really come to the fore. We have played a really exciting brand of rugby throughout the season and that has allowed Sean to express himself. We have made excellent progress this season and we hope this will be a springboard to success in the future. Nearly all of the current squad have re-signed for next season and this gives us a good base to build on for next season”.
