Sedgley Trip for Hoppers

Date: 16 September 2022

Hoppers travel to Sedgley Park this week looking for a first point of the season after losses at Wharfedale and at home to Fylde last time out.

They face a Sedgley side who have won both games so far, a bonus point win against Otley on the opening weekend of the season and a close 20-19 win at Chester last time out.

For Hoppers, Jacob Browne makes his 50th first XV league appearance. He made his debut against Huddersfield at Lightfoot Green on the 16th of April 2016 scoring a try. Jacob went on to play two more games that season, scoring in each. His try scoring tally to date is 16.

Ahead of the game, Hoppers Assistant Coach Dan Orwin commented “Despite a few injuries and unavailabilities within the squad, we’ve had another good training week and are improving all the time. Three players (Orry, Jones, and Stanier) will make their first team debuts this weekend and we are looking forward to seeing what they can offer.

We know that we’ve been dealt a tough start to life back in National 2 with Wharfedale, Fylde and Sedge in our first three games, but we are looking forward to the challenge that we will face at Sedge. Like Fylde, and perhaps Wharfedale, they will be in the mix for promotion at the business end of the season.

As a collective (players and coaches), we are very positive and we know that our season won’t be defined by these first three tough fixtures. We’ll keep working hard and getting better.”
