Under 10s at Vale Festival

Date: 12 March 2014

Hoppers started slowly against Vale of Lune and never really got themselves into the game against a team that they could have beaten easily on another day. Too many missed tackles and also losing the ball too frequently in contact was the primary cause – score 3-1 to Vale

Against a strong and talented Wilmslow side they played a lot better than they did against Vale but were under pressure almost immediately. We did very well restricting them to only 3 tries as they were passing the ball well and even throwing in some dummies for good measure. We struggled to create chances against a team that were also very strong defensively. – score 3-0 to Wilmslow

After a break, a burger and a few bags of sweets they started very well against Ormskirk and were convincing winners running in 8 tries. A much stronger and more determined performance from all players and in particular a brace of tries and a man of the match performance by Will Porter. – score 8-1 win for Hoppers

Waterloo were a stronger team than Ormskirk and the boys seemed to know that they had to up their game further. An early try settled their nerves and then some outstanding defensive work – particularly from Kyle Sharrock who was everywhere on the pitch and made numerous try saving tackles. Score 1-0 win for Hoppers

Some excellent play from all boys but player of the tournament was Rocco Williams who contributed to both wins with his strong running and outstanding defence. A stronger showing from previous tournaments and ending with a couple of wins which I am sure will boost their confidence for this week’s game against Waterloo.
