Under 10s outgun Ormskirk

Date: 19 November 2013

Hoppers  45  Ormskirk  0
Fireflies  25  Ormskirk  15

Sunday 17th November saw Ormskirk RUFC make the short trip up the M6 to fortress Lighfoot Lane. Travelling with only nine boys meant the 22 strong squad of Hoppers boys had to be split into Hoppers and Firefly teams;

Match 1

Hoppers played first and the team was a mixture of size and experience,  it was clear from the off that they would be too much for Ormskirk to handle.

There was some great flowing rugby with some nice direct running from Lewis, Big Ben, Aiden and Regan, the forwards dominated at both the breakdown and the set piece and Ormskirk rarely had their hands on the ball. Everyone was fully involved in the game and the boys frequently strung a series of runs and passes together that ended up with them scoring nine tries without reply. Particular special mention for Regan and the forwards who won a scum and a lineout against the head. All in all an impressive performance.

Match 2

The second match was a more evenly contested game that finished with Fireflies winning 5 tries to 3. Again the team played very well together and impressed the crowd with some strong tackling and commitment in the contact areas. The Fireflies had the advantage in the rucks and mauls, retaining possession in attack and winning the ball in defence from a very determined Ormskirk team.

Great commitment shown from all the team with some brave play by Cameron, Billy and Jack.

The weeks man of the match went to William Porter, playing for the Fireflies, for a combination of support play, rucking and a well executed try.

Well done to all players for their team work and 100% effort in both matches.
