Under 10s shine at Sedgley

Date: 06 November 2013

Preston Grasshoppers under 10’s travelled to Sedgley Park for last Sundays fixture and we had a good turn out with 20 boys making the journey.

After a combination of two weeks of training that focused on tackling and organisation in defence along with the return of some rested players from the school half terms, the boys were ready.

We played two matches against a well organised Sedgley Park who had clearly improved since last season’s fixture.

The first game finished 3-6 tries and Hoppers playing in blue and white hoops were the winners. Some great early tackles from Will Porter and Big Ben set the tone for the first half and the boys worked well in attack supporting each other in the contact areas and were competitive particularly in the rucks.

The second match was Hopper Fireflies who played in green shirts, after a slow start that saw the stronger Sedgley Park team have the upper hand with some early tries, the Fireflies started to get back into the game with more decisive play and some strong ruck and mauling. Hoppers had the advantage in the second half and controlled the game for some sustained periods with two late tries from Rory and Lewis. The game finished 6-5 to Sedgley with all the Hoppers coaches and players parents applauding the efforts of all the players.

The man of the match award went to Ben Evans for his 100% commitment, strong tackling and leadership on the field – well done Ben.
