W. (BILL) J. ASCROFT-LEIGH

Date: 24 June 2020

Members and supporters of the club will be saddened to hear of the passing last week of one of our oldest Vice Presidents W. (Bill) J. Ascroft-Leigh.

Bill Ascroft-Leigh was the grandson of our long serving President during the middle of the last century William Fawell Ascroft, who was one of the men who helped resurrect the club at the beginning of said century. Bill was also a cousin of the late Dick Leigh who the Leigh Gallery at the club is named after.

Bill had been the long term keeper of the silver cigarette case presented to his grandfather which only last year the family kindly presented to the club and is on display in our exhibition case at the Harris Museum, currently behind locked doors.

Bill is to be buried in the Ascroft grave at St Mary’s Penwortham.

Our thoughts are with Bill’s family at this time.
