Weekend Round Up

Date: 09 December 2012

2nd XV

The 2nd XV have topped the Bateman Premier League preliminary table and enter 2013 in fine fettle. They finish ahead of Caldy on points difference and boast the best record of the 14 teams. The league now splits into two conferences which commence on January 5th and Hoppers are cautiously optimistic that they can retain their championship.

Saturday was a frustrating afternoon however as Altrincham Kersal failed to fulfil the scheduled fixture. A mid morning inspection declared the Lightfoot Green pitches playable and a number of players had gathered in readiness for the match to go ahead. Unfortunately at approximately 12.15 word came from Altricncham that they would not be travelling up to Lancashire. As a result they have been penalised by the league but the upshot is that Hoppers now wait four weeks until their next scheduled game.

3rd XV

The 3rd XV travelled to Bolton 2 with a patched up side because of injury and unavailability. Despite this they put in one of the performances of the weekend to run out 10-20 winners and move top of Division 2 North above Fylde 3.

4th XV

The 4th XV faced a tough trip to Sale FC 3 and ran out on the wrong side of a 29-15 result.  Hoppers 4th XV are still in a strong position in Division 3 North despite this defeat sitting in 3rd position behind Leigh 3 and Southport 2.

5th XV

The 5th XV edged a close home game with Aspull 1 by a close margin of 19-15. The result sees Hoppers leap frog Aspull into 3rd place in Division 4 North meaning they are excellently placed for a promotion push in the second half of the season.

6th XV

The 6th XV hosted Thornton Clevelys 2 and were soundly beaten 13-46. A Thornton player received a serious neck injury and was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment. A special mention must go to First Aid Plus Lancashire who were first on the scene to help the injured player. Preston Grasshoppers wish the player concerned a full and speedy recovery.

The defeat leaves Hoppers sitting in 2nd position in Division 5 North.
