Young Hoppers gain representative honours

Date: 09 February 2012

A quartet of Hoppers youngsters have been rewarded for their strong playing form with call ups to two representative  squads. Back rower Ally Murray, second row John Wells and hooker Chris Tribley are selected for the Lancashire Under 20 squad whilst centre Mike Haley has gained selection for the North Under 18 squad.

Murray, Wells and Tribley are in the Lancashire squad for their upcoming County Championship games against Cumbria on 12th February and Cheshire on 26th February in a revised two pool format for the Northern Division. Former Hopper Paul Bailey is assistant coach of the squad.

Haley is one of five Lancastrians selected in the 23 man North squad for this years divisional festival at Broadstreet RFC over the weekend 17th-19th February. They play the South West on 17th and then face the Midlands on 19th.

Speaking on behalf of the club Gareth Dyer said “We are delighted for Ally, John, Chris and Mike. They are three talented young players who have big futures at the club. I’m sure they will give a good account of themselves and we wish them well”.

However Dyer was surprised that only three Hoppers had made the Lancashire squad. “We’ve some excellent young players who have performed well in our first team squad this season who I’m sure would have done an excellent job for the county. Hopefully they will get an invite to participate if the squad makes the next stage of the competition”.
